Singing cowboys swing by Cincinnati
WVXU presents Riders in the Sky concert at the Taft Theatre on Saturday
The singing cowboy group Riders In The Sky
moseys into Cincinnatis Taft Theatre
on Saturday, March 8, to perform hits from the trail. The concert, sponsored by WVXU, begins at 7:30 p.m. and includes the taping of two episodes for "Riders Radio Theater" with Texas Bix Bender and Big Zeno Clinker.
Since 1977, Riders In The Sky have faithfully tended a musical tradition kindled by singing cowboy legends such as Gene Autry and the Sons Of The Pioneers. Throughout their collaborative career, the Riders have branded the cowboy genre with their own style, crafted from a well-balanced mix of both classic and original Western songs, smooth harmony and slapstick comedy.
Riders In The Sky has produced more than 4,000 shows, 200 public radio shows and three television series. Theyve logged 200 national TV appearances and have recorded dozens of albums. In 1999, the Riders brought the singing cowboy back to the big screen by provided music for Disney's "Toy Story 2" with their rendition of "Woody's Roundup." They then recorded the album Woody's Roundup featuring Riders In The Sky
, which won a Grammy Award in 2001 for best children's album.
