02/01/05

Ohio Secretary of State and Xavier University alumnus, Kenneth Blackwell, spoke at the University on Tuesday, Feb. 15, in the Cintas Center banquet room. Blackwell’s presentation was titled "Adversity, Triumphs and Lessons Learned," and was part of the University’s observance of Black History Month. The program began with a reception and benediction at 3:30 p.m. Blackwell was scheduled to speak at 4:05 p.m.

Blackwell spoke of his personal history, growing up in Cincinnati, succeeding academically and athletically at Xavier, and gaining election to a series of municipal and state offices.

Following his presentation, those in attendance shared their personal histories with people at their tables, with discussion guided by a trained facilitator. The goal is to promote civil and respectful dialogue among the races by gaining a better understanding of each others’ personal histories.

This event is co-sponsored by Xavier University, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Procter & Gamble and the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce.
