Waugh to host chat on ESPN.com
Guard also one of four basketball players honored as University faces active week in sports
Senior All-American guard Amy Waugh will chat on ESPN.com's Timeout Chat Show
on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 5:00 p.m. The chat will be on the web site's SportsNation
portion of the web site.
Waugh's selection for the chat comes just a few days after the guard was one of four University basketball players to sweep the Atlantic 10 Conference weekly awards
Waugh earned the conference's player of the week honors for averaging 27.5 points per game in wins over La Salle and Richmond. She scored 29 points against La Salle while shooting 8 for 12 from three point range and then scored 26 points against Richmond. She's the A-10's leading scorer with an average of 18.9 points per game.
Teammate Tara Boothe was honored as rookie of the week by the league for the fifth time in the last six weeks after she averaged 16 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two wins.
On the men's team, freshman Dedrick Finn was named freshman of the week for his efforts in the Musketeers wins over La Salle and UMass. Finn shot 70 percent from the field in the two games, including 71 percent from three-point range. His 21 points against UMass was a career high. Hes now the first member of the mens basketball team to win the honor since Romain Sato in December 2000.
Also, All-American forward David West was named A-10 player of the week for the second time this season for averaging 19.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game in the wins over La Salle and UMass. West also broke the Universitys career blocked shot record and moved into the top five on the Universitys all-time scoring list. He has now won the award nine times in his career.
Both teams are in action this week. The men's team travels to Fordham on Saturday, Jan. 25. The womens team, 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the A-10, had a three-game win streak snapped with a 70-57 loss at George Washington on Sunday. The women host UMass on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Rhode Island on Sunday Jan. 26 at Cintas Center.
Also, the rifle team travels to West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 8:00 a.m. The team is coming off its first loss of the season
against the University of Kentucky over the weekend. The team then won a split-squad match against Rose-Hulman Institute
And the swim teams return to the pool after in a dual meet over the weekend and having its double dual meet against Cleveland State and Duquense
cancelled due to a power outage.
Three dates also remain for the hitter's workshops
put on by the baseball coaching staff.
