Youth sports summit cancelled

Sports studies director Ron Quinn cited lack of interest for the cancellation of the youth sports summit scheduled for July 31. The goal of the summit, titled "Caution: Children at Play, Proceed with Care," was to identify appropriate youth sports methods and practices for parents and coaches.

"It was really disappointing," Quinn said. He added that out of 2,000 contacts, there was zero response.

Quinn, along with new athletic director Dawn Rogers, Bob Bigelow, one of the foremost lecturers on youth sports, Dr. Stephen Dailey, the primary care and youth sports injuries specialist with Wellington Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, and Chris Nelms, the Cincinnati director for Major League Baseball’s Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities program were scheduled to speak at the event.

The summit, co-sponsored by Wellington Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine was geared toward parents and coaches of children ages 14 and younger. There are no plans to reschedule the event.
