Reunion Weekend set for June 3-6
Xavier and Edgecliff alumni celebrate 11-year-old tradition with events around campus
05/21/04Approximately 1,000 Xavier University and Edgecliff College alumni and family will gather on campus June 3-6 for Reunion Weekend. The celebration will honor classes with years that end in a 4 or a 9 and is meant to give alumni a chance to renew old friendships, make new ones and recapture college memories. Hundreds of graduates are expected to attend this now 11-year-old tradition.
Events throughout the weekend include a golf scramble, lectures and cocktail parties. Alumni will also have the opportunity to take part in the 7th annual classes without quizzes seminars. The eight seminars cover topics ranging from tai chi and Jesuit history to wine-tasting and gender communication.
Those attending Reunion Weekend also have the option of staying at one of the on-campus residence halls as another way of reliving their college days.
"Reunion Weekend provides a great opportunity for alumni from across the country to return to campus to rekindle friendships and experience the campus as it is today and college life as it exists in the year 2004," said Mary Ann Schomaker, assistant director of alumni programs.
The reunion winds down on Sunday, June 6, with a memorial Mass at 9:00 a.m. in the Cintas Center, followed by the Half-Century Club Brunch at the Cintas Center banquet hall. During brunch, Xavier will honor both Xavier and Edgecliff graduates of 1954 by inducting them into the Half-Century Club and presenting them with a "Doctor of Durability" award. All members of the 1954 class who attend the reunion will receive this mark of distinction.
