Alumni events at Cintas Center, athletic contests keep campus bustling
02/27/04With midterm exams ending Friday, Feb. 27, this weekend marks the start of spring break for students-and a light event calendar on campus. There are no classes from March 1-5, and the regular semester resumes on Monday, March 8.
On Friday, the weekly chemistry seminar begins a series of senior thesis presentations in Logan Hall, Room 100, at 1:30 p.m. This week's is the first of five seminars that feature three chemistry students' dissertations. Seniors presenting this week are Kelly Curran, Brian Angolia and Elizabeth Portman. For more information, call 513 745-3352 or e-mail email@example.com.
Also Friday, the baseball team is heading south at the start of break, traveling to North Carolina to take on High Point University in a 2:30 game. And on campus, the women's basketball team celebrates its senior night at the Cintas Center during a 7:00 p.m. game against Atlantic 10 rival University of Dayton.
Saturday, the rifle team aims for a top ranking at the Great American Rifle Conference in West Point, N.Y., at 8:00 a.m. But that won't end the team's season; the rifle squad has qualified for the NCAA Championships, which begin March 12, for the sixth consecutive year.
Also Saturday, the baseball team remains in North Carolina for a second game against High Point University at noon.
Saturday afternoon on campus, the men's basketball Musketeers take the court against the University of Duquesne in a 2:00 p.m. A-10 conference game at the Cintas Center. Several alumni chapters are hosting a variety of alumni events surrounding the game.
On Sunday, Feb. 29, the swing/jazz series is hosting Cincinnati's own Mary Ellen Tanner, performing with her trio and special guest Rick VanMatre, at 3:00 p.m. in the Gallagher Student Center theater. The artists are performing selections from the Great American Songbook of George Gershwin and Harold Arlen. For more information, call 513 745-3161 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
