Players' Much Ado About Nothing premieres during Valentine’s week
Career preparation, fundraisers and film screenings fill week event calendar

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, the Xavier Players student theater group is taking the stage for a series of performances of Shakespeare's romantic comedy "Much Ado About Nothing." The play tells the story of Lady Beatrice and Lord Benedick, who have a love-hate relationship before falling in love with the help of their close friends. The opening night performance is Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students, faculty, staff and senior citizens. On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the center for career and leadership development is hosting a professional experience program (PEP) talk from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. in the center for career and leadership development (CCLD) office in the Gallagher Student Center, Room 310. The program refers resumes of qualified students to employers to assist them in pursuing part-time, internship and summer employment opportunities. Alpha Epsilon Delta, the University's pre-med society, is holding a fundraiser to raise money for a 1-year-old liver transplant patient Monday-Wednesday, Feb. 9-11, from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the lobbies of Alter and Albers Halls. The students are selling food and drinks throughout the three days. Proceeds go toward helping Cole Jackson, who suffers from a rare liver disease called biliary atresia. To survive, Jackson underwent a liver transplant on Aug. 14, 2003, at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, about 500 miles from his North Carolina home. Jackson's father, Dave, was the donor.
The family faces many medical bills and other financial burdens. The Jackson family has set up a tax-deductible fund through the National Heritage Foundation. On Tuesday, the men's basketball team travels to the University of Richmond for an Atlantic 10 Conference game at 7:30 p.m. The game is being televised on the Fox Sports Network.

Also Thursday, business majors and minors can meet the members of the professional fraternity Delta Sigma Pi at a Meet the Chapter Night event at 9:00 p.m. in Hailstones Hall. The fraternity is organized to foster the study of business in universities, honing on the ideas of scholarship, social activity, ethics, research and community. Pizza is being served.
