Men's basketball out duked by Duquesne
Team makes just 38 percent of its shots in 71-58 loss and has winning streaks snapped
01/15/04Unable to find its shooting touch, the mens basketball team was upset by Duquesne University, 71-58, on Wednesday night. The team made just 18 of its 47 shots including nine of 29 three-point attempts. Duquesne, meanwhile, hit 53.1 percent of its shots.
The loss ended the Musketeers four-game winning streak, its streak of 16 consecutive regular season Atlantic 10 Conference wins and its streak of 10 consecutive A-10 road wins. The team fell to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Xavier got almost all of its scoring from guards Lionel Chalmers, who scored 18 points, and Romain Sato, who scored 21 points. Sato raised his career scoring total to 1,641 points, which moved him into 10th place on Xaviers all-time scoring list.
XU opens a three-game homestand on Saturday against sixth-ranked Saint Josephs University at 2:00 p.m. at Cintas Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
