WVXU wins Communicator Awards at international level
Station earns two Crystal Awards of Excellence and an honorable mention
12/09/03WVXU 9l.7 FM is the recipient of two Crystal Awards of Excellence and an honorable mention in the international Communicator Awards 2003 Audio Competition. The flagship station of the X-Star Radio Network, the University's WVXU was selected for the honors from 1,079 entries in the competition.
One of the Crystal Awards was awarded for the station's documentary production titled Cincinnati Radio: The Nation's Station (1921-1941). James C. King, director for broadcasting, was the executive producer of the documentary. Mike Martini and Mark Magistrelli were the co-producers, and George Zahn was the technical producer.
The second Crystal Award was awarded for We Were Here, WVXU's special program commemorating the life and times of Martin Luther King Jr. The station's music director, Lee Hay, produced the program.
Another special program produced by Lee Hay, Space Shuttle Columbia Tribute, received an honorable mention.
The Communicator Awards is an international awards competition that recognizes outstanding work in the communications field. Entries are judged by industry professionals who look for organizations and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.
