Students to cut their hair for charity
Donations to Locks of Love to come from haircuts during women’s basketball game

Nearly two dozen Xavier students are growing their hair as long as possiblejust to have it cut off. But its all for a good cause. The students, both men and women, are donating their cut hair to Locks of Love.Locks of Love is a nonprofit national organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Most of the children who benefit from the program have lost their hair as a result of a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure.
"Locks of Love takes donated ponytails 10 inches or longer," says sophomore Rebecca Foley, who is organizing the event. "It takes 10 ponytails to make one wig. So we're hoping to have 50 people donate to make five wigs."
Foley, who is growing her hair to donate, hopes to have local hair stylists cut the hair during the halftime of the Feb. 6 Xavier women's basketball game at the Cintas Center. There also may be a similar event scheduled sometime in the spring.
