Women's basketball begins A-10 Championship march
Team faces La Salle in quarterfinals, while men's team wraps up regular season at home
The womens basketball team
starts its march for the Atlantic 10 Tournament
title today, Friday, March 7, at 6:00 p.m. against LaSalle University at the Ryan Center in Kingston, R.I. The Musketeers enter the tournament with a 19-8 season record and 10-5 conference record, which placed them second in the conferences west division and earned them a first-round bye. La Salle, which is 15-13 on the season, earned its way into the tournament quarterfinals with a 67-62 first round win over the University of Massachusetts on Thursday, March 6. Xavier has beaten La Salle in both meetings this season, 75-54 on Jan. 12 at home and 65-51 on Feb. 15 at La Salle.
Xavier has advanced to the tournaments semifinal round in each of the past five seasons, played in the finals three of the last four seasons and won the tournament in 2000 and 2001. Should the Musketeers beat La Salle, they would play the winner of the game between St. Joseph's University and the University of Rhode Island. Rhode Island beat the University of Dayton in the first round, 62-57. The semifinal game is on Saturday, March 8, at 6:00 p.m., with the championship game taking place on Monday, March 10, at the home court of the highest remaining seed.

Earlier this week, seniors Reetta Piipari and Amy Waugh were both named first team All-Conference. Waugh was also named academic All-Conference. Freshman Tara Boothe was named A-10 rookie of the year and third team All-Conference. Fellow freshman Kristy Wallner was named to the conferences All-Rookie team.
Meanwhile, the men's basketball team
wraps up its regular season on Saturday, March 8, at home against Temple University at noon. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN. A pregame ceremony will honor David West, the senior All-American who earlier this week earned his record 13th A-10 player of the week award. It was his sixth of the season. A Xavier player has won the player of the week honor the last seven weeks, with West winning five and Romain Sato winning two.
The team is 23-4 overall and 14-1 in the league. It secured the No. 1 overall seed for the A-10
