Nancy Linenkugel became chair of the Department of Health Services Administration in 2011 | February 11, 2013

Nancy Linenkugel, chair of the Department of Health Services Administration at Xavier and director of its graduate program since 2011, has been named one of "100 Great Health Administration Professors" nationally by MHA Guide.

Healthcare administration is one of the nation’s fastest growing career fields. Professors in the field help create policies, guidelines and ideas to improve the healthcare system. Because of the crucial role professors and academic leaders play in the overall landscape of our healthcare system, MHA Guide created the 2013 list of "100 Great Health Administration Professors," its health administration career guide. Professionals named to the list strengthen students, alumni and their own schools. The criteria were based on the personal achievements and leadership positions of these individuals as well as the reputation of their respective institutions. The list is not ranked.

Linenkugel earned her doctoral degree in management from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, a master’s in health services administration from Xavier and a bachelor’s degree from Mary Manse College in Toledo. She is the first graduate of Xavier’s program to serve as its chair.

She teaches graduate courses in professional development. Her book, Wisdom from Mergers: Voices of Experience, is based on her doctoral dissertation.

Prior to coming to Xavier, Linenkugel was president of Chatfield College in Cincinnati for six years, president and CEO of the Providence Health System and Providence Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio, for 15 years, vice president of St. John Medical Center in Steubenville, Ohio, for five years and a junior high school teacher for seven years in her early ministry. She has been a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio, since 1968 and has served on the elected leadership team of her order for a four-year term.

Linenkugel is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has served on their national Board of Governors. She has received numerous awards, including induction into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame, the ATHENA Award, being named an “Up and Comer” by Modern Healthcare Magazine in 1990 and both of Xavier's HSA Awards—Preceptor of the Year and Distinguished Alumna Award.
