Xavier's Graduate Program in Health Services Administration celebrates 50th anniversary
Daylong event includes panel discussions with healthcare professionals and a gala dinner
Xavier University’s Graduate Program in Health Services Administration celebrates 50 Years of Excellence today, Friday, Oct. 10. The daylong program at the Cintas Center includes a presentation from internationally-known futurist Jeff Goldsmith followed by a panel discussion and the opportunity to meet with faculty and other alumni. The evening ends with a gala dinner at the James & Caroline Duff Banquet Center in Cintas.
Jeff Goldsmith, Ph.D., is the president of Health Futures, Inc., and associate professor of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia. His keynote address will be "A Look over the Horizon." A panel discussion at 10:30 a.m. features healthcare leaders from service organizations and universities.
Xavier University established a graduate program in Hospital Administration in 1958 to provide professional training and education to current and future hospital administrators. Although the healthcare field has changed dramatically since then, the renamed program in Health Services Administration has maintained its reputation for academic excellence. The program continues to accomplish its mission by educating current and future healthcare administrators through interdisciplinary courses, residencies and relationships with alumni.
“The HSA program’s past is a prologue to its future,” says Ida Critelli Schick, program director. “Its accomplishments and successes over 50 years are the foundation for future growth and continued excellence of our program. We will continue to graduate women and men imbued with Jesuit values who move into top leadership roles in healthcare in the United States.
"Our short-term goal is to earn the highest accreditation in our site review next year. We will do this through our high quality faculty and students, who will help keep our program as a number 1-ranked program in the country.”
In 2008, the program tied for first with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Modern Healthcare’s “Top Business Graduate Schools for Physicians.”
The program is also launching a new development campaign in conjunction with the 50th anniversary to generate increased student scholarship support, endowed chairs, a Center for Health Management Ethics, a Center for Health Informatics and funding for faculty development.
The program invited alumni, former faculty, preceptors, mentors and practitioners in the healthcare field to attend the celebration. Call Tina Farrell for more information at 513-745-3392 or e-mail Farrellt@xavier.edu. Reservations can be made online at www.xavier.edu/mhsa.
