Xavier's Community Building Institute offers a summer speaker series about community partnerships
The second session is being held on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Cintas Center
The Community Building Institute is hosting a series of conversations to explore the benefits of forming lasting positive partnerships in communities. The sessions offer a chance to explore examples of community partnerships that are making positive change and hear from practitioners, residents and partners who are working together to form lasting partnerships to improve their communities.
These informal, conversational sessions are being held at Xavier’s Cintas Center. All sessions take place from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
The next session, Corporate Partnerships in Community, takes place on Friday, Aug. 12, and focuses on finding common ground between businesses and residents. Corporate citizen Pete Strange of Messer Construction and Bond Hill Academy school principal Tom Boggs discuss the decades-long relationship that has deeply connected Messer Construction to Bond Hill and to educating neighborhood children. Also, Peg Moertl of PNC Bank presents her institution’s efforts to support community initiatives across Ohio and the Midwest.
On Sept. 9, Community-University Partnerships focuses on the unique circumstances large institutions face when located within residential communities, such as Xavier has with its neighbors Evanston, North Avondale and Norwood. Neighborhood activist Anzora Adkins and Xavier’s John Kucia talk about maintaining an ongoing relationship that is mutually beneficial, while Professor Carol Scheerer and elementary school principal Stacy Hill-Simons discuss their efforts to help each other at the new Evanston Academy (formally Hoffman Parham School).
The first session, the School/Community Connection, held on Friday, July 22, focused on parents as an essential part of school and community partnerships.
