Staff members from across campus are packing up and preparing to move into new offices in the James E. Hoff, S.J., Academic Quad beginning Tuesday, July 20.
The Discovery Services staff members with offices in the McDonald Library are moving their belongings to the third floor of the Learning Commons on July 20 but will continue to work on the McDonald information resources desk and in other McDonald service areas through Aug. 13. On Aug. 16, the Connection Center desk officially opens in the Learning Commons lobby while the information desk in McDonald closes.
On Thursday, July 22, the Office of Grant Services moves to the third floor of the Learning Commons. Other moves are tentatively scheduled for late July or early August.
Most of the furniture and fixtures are in place. Internet, including wireless access, is up and available. Public access to the Learning Commons will be limited through July 30. The new parking lot on the east side of the building is also now open. The lot is designated for faculty and staff only during the day. Students with permits will be allowed to park in the lot after business hours and on weekends.
The Learning Commons is part of the Hoff Quad which includes the new Stephen and Dolores Smith Hall housing the Williams College of Business and a new physical plant building. Both opened earlier this summer. The nearly $80 million construction project is being funded through the $200 million To See Great Wonders: The Campaign for Xavier, which is also funding a new residence hall and dining complex now under construction and set to open in August 2011. The campaign is also contributing to growth of the University’s endowment and Annual Fund.
