Xavier music faculty perform a recital to benefit a former professor's memorial fund

Concert in memory of Dona Buel takes places this Wednesday at Knox Presbyterian Church | September 28, 2009

Faculty members from the Department of Music are holding a benefit concert in memory of Dona Buel, former associate music professor at Xavier, who died in March 2008.

The concert, which supports a memorial fund set up in her name, takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 3400 Michigan Ave. in Hyde Park. The concert is free and open to the public, but donations are being accepted to help provide scholarships to music students at Xavier.

In addition to her work on the music faculty, Buel was a piano recitalist. While serving as chair of the Department of Music, she oversaw the renovation of Edgecliff Hall into Xavier’s music center. A child prodigy, she played piano with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at age 12, later graduating from the UC College Conservatory of Music. She began her teaching career at Edgecliff College and then Xavier University, where she remained for 25 years.
