Xavier accounting students help local residents and other students with their tax returns

Area residents and students may be eligible for the Earned Income Credit

03/01/11

Xavier University accounting students are helping prepare tax returns for low-income, elderly and student taxpayers on most Monday evenings from 5:30 p.m.-to 8:00 p.m. now through April 11.

The students are offering free basic Federal and State income tax assistance to people living in the Xavier, Norwood, Evanston and Avondale communities through the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).

Getting help is easy. Call 513-745-2828 to schedule an appointment or email vita@xavier.edu. Appointments are scheduled at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Taxpayers must have appointments to receive assistance at the scheduled times and then are served on a first come, first-served basis. Taxpayers should bring:

• A photo ID.
• All W2 and 1099 forms; the last pay stub of the year is not enough.
• Social Security cards for you, your spouse and your dependents.
• Any tax-related documents.
• A copy of last year’s tax return, if possible.

The program takes place in the Schiff Family Conference Center in Xavier’s Cintas Center. Parking is available at the Cintas Center. Assistance is available on the following Mondays:

• March 14
• March 28
• April 4
• April 11
