Xavier has been ranked among the best for 17 years | September 13, 2011

For the 17th straight year, Xavier University ranks among the top 10 Midwest colleges and universities, according to the U.S. News & World Report rankings released today, Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The 2012 edition of America’s Best Colleges ranks Xavier fourth among 142 Midwest universities ranked by the publication in this category. Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., took the No. 1 spot, while Butler University in Indianapolis was ranked second, and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, was third. Xavier and Indiana’s Valparaiso University tied for fourth.

In past years, Xavier has ranked second and third, including last year when it tied for third place with Drake.

U.S. News & World Report designates schools in four categories—national universities, national liberal arts colleges, regional universities and regional colleges. Xavier is ranked among regional universities, which are sorted by geographic location, and Xavier is in the Midwest region.

Institutions in the regional category provide a full range of undergraduate majors and master’s programs, but unlike national universities, offer few, if any, doctoral programs. For the first time, U.S. News & World Report ranked for-profit universities this year.
