Xavier University a Best Value Private College says 2012-2013 Kiplinger"s Personal Finance

October 29, 2012

Xavier University has been named one of the best values in private colleges by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.

Kiplinger ranked 100 private universities and 100 liberal arts colleges that combine outstanding education with economic value. The annual private school report appears online at www.kiplinger.com/links/college .

Other schools on the private school list include Yale, Harvard, Notre Dame, Georgetown and Dartmouth. Xavier is ranked number 70 overall, up from 2011-2012 raking of 71. Xavier was one of only five private Ohio colleges ranked in the Top 100. (55: Case Western Reserve, 83: Franciscan University of Steubenville, 91: University of Dayton, 93: John Carroll University).

According to Kiplinger’s: Xavier and the other schools included in the 2012-2013 lists represent the colleges that are providing high quality academics, in addition to great cost value even during these tough economic times. These private colleges exemplify the traits parents and students want when looking into higher education options: small class sizes, many financial aid options, high four-year graduation rate and low debt for students after graduation.

Kiplinger’s criteria reflect the issues affecting families. The rankings reward schools with the highest amount of met need and recognize schools that help students avoid borrowing. They also give more weight to the four-year graduation rate—a measure of the college’s ability to deliver academic support and keep down overall cost to families. The overall focus on academic quality and affordability remains.
