On January 26, 2009,sixteen Xavier MBA students competed against one another in the Association for Corporate Growth Cincinnati (ACG) competition. This Round One Xavier competition was held at Cintas Center, where groups presented their cases to a panel of six judges, all Xavier alumni. Two faculty sat on the judges’ panel: Shelly Webb, chair and associate professor of finance, and Dino Lucarelli, adjunct professor of finance.
The Execs team of Chris Panczyk, Laurie Hahn-Parrott, and Nimesh Amin, members of Xavier’s Executive MBA Program, won this round of the competition. They were coached by Xavier assistant professor of finance Dave Hyland. Their 30-minute presentation was a case concerning the potential merger of two apparel firms and the valuations and strategies involved in the merger. The Execs now advance into the ACG Cincinnati Cup finals on February 25, 2009 at UC’s Kingsgate Marriott. A congratulatory reception and presentation of the Cup will immediately follow finals.

Their coaches were Sandra Richtermeyer, chair and associate professor of accounting, and Jamie Pawlukiewicz, professor of finance.
Association for Corporate Growth Cincinnati established the ACG Cincinnati Cup, a highly realistic private equity/investment banking case study contest that will present a total of $10,500 in awards to five winning teams of MBA students representing the top MBA programs in the greater Cincinnati area. Competing teams are from: Northern Kentucky University College of Business; Miami University Richard T. Farmer School of Business; University of Cincinnati’s College of Business; Xavier University Williams College of Business, and University of Dayton School of Business Administration.
Students gain real world experience and invaluable insights into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advising and private equity. Each case study provides students with a unique opportunity to present strategic advice to a panel of professionals from within the ACG community. The contest, open exclusively to master’s level students attending the five universities, starts with first-round competitions on each school’s campus. Each team analyzes and presents its solutions and recommendations to a complex business case that requires a combination of corporate strategy, finance and valuation skills.
