The OPCICA is comprised of 20 member colleges and universities. Founded in 1987, its primary purpose is to develop a network of communication and resource sharing among the instrumental departments of the various privately-funded institutions of higher education in Ohio. It sponsors an annual honors festival featuring an Honors Concert Band and an Honors Jazz Ensemble of instrumental students from participating schools, nominated by their home college conductor. These students are together for two days. In three rehearsals, their program is rehearsed and prepared for the concert. Guest conductors are chosen from the participating institutions, giving students an eclectic experience with conductors of different style, background, and technique.
