Xavier Players presents Pirates of Penzance, a Gilbert and Sullivan romp on the high seas

Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 | October 18, 2011

The Xavier Players performing arts group collaborates with Xavier’s Department of Music to present one of the finest and funniest Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, Pirates of Penzance. Xavier presents the musical, by Sir William Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan, on Oct. 21-23 and Nov. 4-5 at 8:00 p.m., and Oct. 22 and Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m.

Featuring swashbuckling pirates, dutiful (and not-so dutiful) daughters, and bumbling Keystone Cops, the musical presents the story of pirate-apprentice Frederic and his beloved Mabel, whose fates rely on the interpretation of a leap-year birthday. Filled with romance and laughter, Pirates delivers a treasure chest full of adventure for the entire family.

The show is especially well-known for its patter song, “I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General,” shown in this YouTube clip.

Tickets for students, seniors, faculty and staff cost $7 in advance and $10 on the day of the show. General admission tickets cost $15. Tickets can be purchased online or by phone at 513-745-3939.
