Xavier Players presentation of Spike Heels begins today in the Gallagher Student Center
A Women of Excellence reception precedes the opening night performance on Feb. 18
The Xavier Players theater group is presenting Spike Heels, a comedy written by Theresa Rebeck and directed by special guest Tim Waldrip, for a four-day run in the Gallagher Student Center Studio Theater.
The show opens today, Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. and continues through Feb. 21. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 the day of the show. They can be purchased online or by phone at 513-745-3939.
This contemporary comedy tackles female stereotypes by exploring sexual harassment, misplaced affection and the possibility of entangled romance. Two extraordinary women take on men and relationships with the empowerment that comes from a great pair of shoes. With Pygmalion references, the play exemplifies the fight for gender equality and uses humor to question traditional gender roles.
In conjunction with the Players’ opening night performance, a young alumnae wine and cheese reception is being hosted by Women of Excellence and Xavier Young Alumni. It takes place in the Gallagher Student Center Clock Tower Lounge at 6:00 p.m. on Feb. 18 just before the premiere performance of the play. Tickets for the event are $5 and are available at the Women of Excellence web site or by calling 513-745-2081. Registration is limited to the first 50 people.
The theme of the show ties in with Xavier’s year-long celebration of 40 years of women on campus. It is the philosophy of the Xavier Players to combine real-life experiences in the form of meaningful service that relates to issues presented in their plays.
