Xavier Men's Lacrosse soars over Wabash and DePauw in mini-tournament
The Xavier Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Greencastle, Indiana this past weekend to compete against Depauw and Wabash College at Depauw University. The Musketeers had high hopes of remaining undefeated and in high fashion, which they did.
The Musketeers played Wabash in the first game, where they dominated from the start. The attack led by Sophomore Sean Cahill out-played Wabash's defense as Cahill, Mac Reed and Jack Severt opened up the scoring attempts by consistently dominating every posession. The midfielders of Freshman Chris Sutton and Sophomores Michael Louque and Peter Manca played aggressively on both sides of the field which caused the Musketeer's tempo and poise to ensure the dominating victory. Sophomore LSM Dan Ible proved himself worthy by getting nearly 12 ground balls to help the Musketeers stay on the offensive side of the field for most of the game
On the defensive side of the field, the aggressive and fierce play of Junior Matt Kaplun and Sophomores Bobby Graham and Dan Hellmann limited Wabash to very few scoring chances. The outstanding goaltending of Freshman Connor Gallagher and Sophomore Matt Rosendahl frustrated Wabash as they could barely get on the scoreboard.
The second game featured the Muskies taking on the Tigers of Depauw in another lop-sided event. The consistent dominant offense of Cahill, Reed and Severt put them on the board early. The great two-way play of Louque and Manca along with Sutton winning nearly 85% of his faceoffs kept Depauw on defense for most of the game.
In the 4th quarter, the Musketeers committed a couple of bad penalties which put them in man-down situations. But the outstanding defensive play of Kaplun, Graham, Hellmann and goaltending from Joey Jenco limited the Tigers to just one goal.
