Xavier Hockey Hires New Head Coach
06/07/10
The Xavier University Ice Hockey has hired Tim Driscoll to take over the previously open head coaching position. Coach Driscoll will bring along Chuck Sperrick as an assistant coach. Both of the new coaches, Coach Bergstrom and the rest of the team are very excited for next season's practices to begin. Next season's schedule is almost finalized and will be posted soon.
A statement from Coach Driscoll:
“Coach Sperrick and I are very excited to have the opportunity to lead the Musketeers hockey team. What really sold us on what a great chance this is was the opportunity to meet some of the players. I was very impressed by the character of those players and their commitment to building a first class program at Xavier. Having had the experience of coaching at my alma mater, the University of Dayton, I know how challenging it can be to commit so much time and effort into a club hockey team while staying focused on studies and all the other responsibilities of college. It seems to me that the players I have met understand that and are prepared to face it head on. That is the kind of player we want on our team – guys who are up for a challenge and understand the rewards of meeting it. When we hit the ice, our team will be focused on speed, relentless pressure on defense and discipline – if we execute on that, we will win our fair share of games and hopefully attain levels of success never before enjoyed by Xavier hockey. More importantly, when players graduate, they will be better prepared for the world than had they not played hockey. Coach Sperrick and I are committed to that above all and we are anxious to get started.”
