Xavier University junior Alexandra Calvert brought home Xavier’s first ever ribbon from the 2011 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championship Show at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington May 5-8. Calvert won a 10th place ribbon in the Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation (Individual) category.
Calvert has qualified further than any Xavier student in the brief history of XU Equestrian Team and is the first Xavier student ever to qualify for the collegiate nationals.
To get to this point, she had to score enough points in the regular season shows to qualify for Regionals. She then placed Reserve Champion – 2nd Place – at the Regional Finals, before winning first-place Champion at the Zone 6 Championships in Columbus, Ohio. At Zones, she had to beat ten top riders from five different regions from Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Michigan, and even some Canadian teams.
The Xavier team competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in a region that includes University of Cincinnati, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Northern Kentucky University, Midway College, Morehead State, and Marshall University.
Calvert is graduated from Lehman Catholic High School north of Dayton.
