Xavier University alumni Chris Bauer and Melissa Myers (aka Team Scooter) of Hyde Park were the winning team in Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati’s Inaugural Amazing Race, modeled after the TV show of the same name. At 11:00 am on Saturday, April 28, they took off from Fountain Square with more than 100 other teams to complete mental & physical challenges at popular locations throughout downtown Cincinnati. Despite driving rain and 48-degree weather, Team Scooter ran a total of 3.2 miles and competed in five challenges - swimming laps, making basketball shots, making corn-hole shots, critical thinking puzzles, and taking a Cincinnati Reds quiz. They had to decipher clues in order to find the location of each challenge.
Bauer and Myers beat their goal of raising $1,000 by race day by bringing in $1,100 for BGCGC. Minutes were shaved off teams’ finishing times based on how much each raised. Team Scooter received 40 minutes off for their fundraising efforts and earned first place with a net time of 31 minutes. The second place team’s net time was 47 minutes. For winning the race, Bauer and Myers each received an iPad 3. They also won four tickets to a Bengals home game in the pre-race raffle.
Myers is a staff accountant Ernst & Young. Bauer is a category development account executive at Procter & Gamble. Both graduated from Xavier University’s Williams College of Business in 2010. BGCGC is collecting donations through May 12. To donate, visit https://bgcgc.ejoinme.org/?tabid=357078&joinme=15451
