XUCB Completes Sweep of Saginaw Valley State

April 4, 2011

Over the weekend, XCB faced off for the first time against newly christened conference foe, Saginaw Valley State University.  The Cardinals made the long five and half hour trek to culturally festive Roselawn Park, and left with shattered spirits and reflective ride back.  With those three wins, the Muskies are now off to a program best 5-0 start in the conference dating back to a doubleheader sweep the the NKU Norse back in October.

There were heroes abound over this succesful weekend, including notable freshmen Andrew "Banks" Horning, Steve Lembas, and Connor "I Hit Bombs" Richards.  The team was able to perservere and score runs when it counted despite an uncharacteristic weekend from "The Boy" Pat Falvey, traditionally XUCB's best hitter.

The Muskies will travel up to Dayton to play the ever-intimidating Wright State University, and team that has posed many a problem for XCB in the past.  The team looks to take a commading lead in the conference with only three weekends left and position itself in a prime position to make the playoffs for the first time in team history.

Xavier vs. Saginaw Valley State University

In the first conference game of the spring, XUCB got out to a great start, squaring off and against SVSU, an unfamiliar opponent from the heart of Michigan.

Freshmen Steve Lembas got the nod for the Muskies in his first career start, and despite a shaky first inning smattered with walks, he settled down nicely, allowing 5 runs on 2 hits in 6 innings.

The Muskie's offense was in full bloom, carrying momentum from XUCBSB2K11, the team was able to throw up 12 runs on 12 hits.  There were several notable performances, including Andrew Horning who went 2-3 with a HR and 5 RBI, Connor Richards who hit an oppo bomb in his first at bat on his way to a 3-3 performance.  Also leading the charge, scoring 2 runs and belting out a couple of hits was veteran Stike Meinmetz.
