XU Symphony Orchestra and Double or Nothing Ensemble touring Europe this summer

May 14, 2014

The Xavier University Symphonic Winds and Chamber Orchestra have combined forces with Double or Nothing Ensemble for their first international tour to represent music making at Xavier University, one of the few Jesuit institutions in the United States to offer a full-fledged music program.  Tour locations include Munich, Vienna, Salzburg, and Prague with concerts in Vienna and Prague.  Tour dates are May 24-June 1, 2014. All Xavier University ensemble members are extremely excited to be sharing instrumental music with international audiences for the first time with this tour.

Xavier’s Department of Music & Theatre, a division of the College of Arts and Sciences, houses four large instrumental ensembles (Symphonic Winds, Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Pep Band), an artist-in-residence program, a Percussion Ensemble, and various other chamber groups. Xavier musicians are dedicated to the excellent performance of quality traditional and contemporary literature, and membership in ensembles is open to all university students and community members. This touring group represents virtually every department across Xavier’s campus; while many students do primarily study music at Xavier, most of these players are not music majors.
