Construction work continues on the Hoff Academic Quad despite the recent bad winter weather. The project is on schedule and making headway.

Deep foundations and the beginning of the walls for the first level of the Williams College of Business are now visible. The new facility is a four-story building with the lower south level being bermed into the earth.

A lot of deep foundations are also starting to come out of the ground on the Learning Commons construction site.

"We've actually started working on two ends of the building," said Bob Sheeran, associate vice president for facilities management. "Down adjacent to the McDonald Library the foundations have started there and then closer up to the corner of Dana and Ledgewood you see the foundation walls. So they'll be joining in the center."

What can't been seen from street level is the tunnel that is going from the Learning Commons under Dana Avenue to the new central utility plant. The plant is being built on the southwest corner in the rear parking lot of the Alumni Center.

"The tunnel will basically be a conduit," Sheeran explained. "It will not be a pedestrian type tunnel. The utilities, the hot water, the cold water, that will serve the campus will go there."

According to Sheeran the entire skin of the buildings and roofs should be on by December 2009. Plans are in the works to have tours available for Reunion Weekend in November 2009.
