Strength in Numbers: an Independent Economy in Cincinnati

March 22, 2013

On March 27, from 8:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. the public is invited to a free event being held at Beans and Grapes Meeting Space, 6200 Montgomery Road in Pleasant Ridge.

From 8:15 – 9:00 a.m., Jeff Milchen, the founder of the American Independent Business Alliance, will present how a city-wide independent business alliance can benefit the city. Such an alliance brings together local businesses for cost-cutting and revenue generating support and consultation, and provides coordinated public information campaigns on the advantages of shopping independent.

Optional small group discussions will continue through 11:30. Those who cannot commit to the entire event may come and go through 11:30.

This is a useful event for independent businesses in Cincinnati and those who support their growth. It was organized by one of Xavier University’s community engaged fellows, senior Owen Raisch. Raisch created CiNBA, an independent business alliance, with a Fuel Cincinnati grant. He has worked with local businesses to create collaborative opportunities, including bringing the founder of the American Independent Business Alliance to run this free workshop.

Jeff Milchen is a co-founder of the American Independent Business Alliance, a non-profit organization helping communities organize to support independent, locally-owned businesses and prevent their displacement by giant corporations.
