Xavier University and the Department of Art are proud to announce an exhibition by two senior art majors, Janneke Aicher and Ryan Hallman, December 10-17, 2010. The art presented will include a variety of sculptures by Ms. Aicher and a collection of paintings by Mr. Hallman.
Ersatz by Janneke Aicher features a series of sculptures and graphic work exploring the concept of control between today’s society and nature. Janneke is inspired by recent changes in her immediate surroundings and the global outcry for change. Her work is created from welded steel and found objects. Ersatz challenges our perception of modern living and the idea that nature is indestructible.
Rewarding Deceptions by Ryan Hallman is a collection of contemporary trompe l’oeil paintings. Trompe l’oeil, meaning “fools the eye,” is an art form that depicts realistic imagery with the intent of creating a three-dimensional illusion on a two-dimensional surface. To achieve this, Ryan has created shallow depth of field still-life compositions based on contemporary imagery such as manipulated photographs, distressed wood, plastic, cardboard and paper, chocolate, figure still-life juxtapositions and water.
Please join the artists for a reception on Friday, December 10, 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Xavier University Art Gallery. Enjoy the art and free refreshments.
