Robert F. Kennedy Jr. presents talk on the environment as part of the E/RS lecture series

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known as a resolute defender of the environment, is presenting a lecture, "Our Environmental Destiny," on Thursday, Oct. 2, as part of Xavier's Ethics/Religion and Society Program's Lecture Series. The 2008-2009 series is titled Ecology and Sustainability: Global Climate Change. 

Kennedy, son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, has had a number of successful legal actions on behalf of environmental issues. He was named one of Time magazine's “Heroes for the Planet” for his success in helping the environmental group Riverkeeper lead the fight to restore the Hudson River. The group's achievement helped spawn more than 160 Waterkeeper organizations across the globe.

Kennedy serves as senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, chief prosecuting attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and president of Waterkeeper Alliance. He is also a clinical professor and supervising attorney at Pace University School of Law's Environmental Litigation Clinic and is co-host of Ring of Fire on Air America Radio. Earlier in his career, he served as assistant district attorney in New York City. Among Kennedy's published books are the New York Times bestseller "Crimes Against Nature" (2004); "The Riverkeepers" (1997); and "Judge Frank M. Johnson Jr: A Biography" (1977).

The lecture takes place at 7:00 p.m. in the James and Caroline Duff Banquet Center at the Cintas Center on Xavier's campus. it is co-sponsored by the Brueggeman Center for Dialogue at Xavier and the Cincinanti Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The event is free of charge but tickets are required. A simulcast of the lecture will offered in the CIntas Center conference rooms if the banquet room reaches capacity. Ticket distribution begins Sept. 2, and tickets can be obtained at the walk-up window at the Cintas Center, open Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. or by downloading a ticket request form and mailing it in.
