Riedy Captures ACHA Scoring Title

Sets record for most goals in one season by a Xavier player | March 16, 2011

Pat Riedy won the ACHA national scoring title with a total of fifty-three goals during the 2010 – 2011 campaign. Riedy, a freshmen, not only won at the D3 level, where the Muskies play, but he actually outscored every player in the nation, including D1 and D2. This is the first time a Muskie has earned this honor. “An accomplishment like this is hard to put into perspective. When you consider there are over five hundred teams in the ACHA and thousands of players, it speaks to the caliber of player that Pat is as well as his teammates.” Driscoll went on to say “we had our best season on record and that was due in large part to having a sniper like Riedy. You have to have a guy that can bury the puck and he did it an amazing rate.”

Aside from Pat’s accomplishments, the season as a whole was very successful. As Coach Driscoll mentioned, it was the best record (15-6-1) the Muskies have posted since the inception of the program. Not only did Riedy have a big year, but fellow freshman Jake Van Oenen scored thirty goals, which would have been a rookie record. “In my mind, the key to the season was the chemistry we had. Obviously the freshman class was loaded with talent but make no mistake, the leadership from the upper classman is what allowed for the success. Guys like Soupy, Nate, Connor, Cheese, Scotty, the whole group, made this happen. Kyle and Joe did a great job of running the club operations which made coaching a lot easier. It is also important to point out the contributions of the role players we have. These guys show up and give us a full effort day in and day out realizing they made not play as much as some of the others. They don’t complain, they don’t sulk, they just step up to the plate and get the job done.” Finally, Driscoll added, “ Coach Sperrick and coach Bergstrom are the guys who did the heavy lifting getting the boys prepared. Practice prep, game planning and in game adjustments were second to none.”
