No. 24 XUCB finishes Spring Showcase 2-1

Freshmen show grit in first games of spring | March 13, 2011

Over XUCBSB2K11 down in sunny Tampa/Plant City, Flordia, XUCB put up an impressive showing against some of the NCBA's more well-renowned teams.  This was the 7th consecutive year that XCB travelled to Florida to take part in the National Club Baseball Association's Annual Spring Showcase.  The event included over 30 teams looking to make a statement as they enter the young 2011 season.

XCB managed to take two out of three games against opponents Carnegie Mellon and Robert Morris, and falling valiantly to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville for the second time this year.

The team was pleased with their performance, shaking off the rust that had built up over the relatively quiet winter, and proving that they should once again be legitimate contenders for the Div. II District V East title this year.  Heading into the spring season, the NCBA had ranked XCB number 24 overall in the nation, a very humbling and rewarding merit.  The Club proved deserving of the ranking as they handily took care of an also ranked Carnegie Mellon team, and a wiley RMU squad from the streets of Pittsburgh.

XCB's next games will be in two weeks against the University of Kentucky at the ever-shrinking Constitution Park.  The Wildcats are always a gritty opponent, and the team looks to build off solid conference wins agains NKU back in the fall.
