Music Department Announces Community Orchestra
Xavier Chamber Orchestra invites broader community membership
Starting in the Fall of 2009, the Xavier Chamber Orchestra will expand its membership to include members of the Xavier community who wish to perform with a string orchestra. “In an effort to create a more diverse and meaningful performance experience for our students,” notes XCO conductor Thomas Heuser, “we hope that anyone will feel welcome to join, including family members, friends, neighbors, Xavier faculty and staff.”
The Xavier Chamber Orchestra is a string orchestra that performs a wide variety of repertoire. The rehearsal environment is focused but informal, and each season consists of at least two public concert performances, often in combination with the Xavier Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Seating in the XCO is determined by audition, with preference given to registered students, and the seating will rotate with some frequency. Members must provide their own instrument. Registered students have the opportunity to be awarded performance-based scholarships for their participation.
The XCO meets every Monday night from 7:00-9:00pm in Long Recital Hall, the beautiful venue on the first floor of Xavier University’s Edgecliff building. The first mandatory meeting of the 2009-2010 season will be Monday, August 24th, at 7:00pm. For more information, contact Thomas Heuser.
