Music Department Adjusts Private Lesson Credits

July 27, 2009

The music department has changed the way credit will be awarded for private music lessons. Beginning in the fall semester of 2009, students who take a half hour lesson per week will receive a one half credit, .5 credit. Students who take a full hour lesson per week will receive a full credit, 1 credit. The cost of the lessons will remain the same, half hour lesson is $250, full hour is $500. This corrects an inequality in the music department since previously both half hour lessons and full hour lessons received a one hour credit. This new policy is a more accurate representation of the course load for the instructor and practice load for the student. Any lessons taken from the music department prior to the fall 2009 semester will count as on the transcript.

Questions about this change may be addressed to the chair of the music department , Dr. Tom Merrill at
