02/11/13
The Xavier University Department of Music and Theatre present their 2013 Winter Music Festival starting Monday, February 18, running through Thursday, February 21. All events begin at 7:30pm, and are free and open to the public.
On Monday, February 18 in Gallagher Theater, we welcome Austrian pianist, Christoph Traxler. He will be performing works by Beethoven in preparation for the 14th International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna, Austria.
The Chamber Orchestra will open their 2013 season on Tuesday, February 19 in Bellarmine Chapel, featuring works by Grieg, Walton, Hohvaness, Warlock, and the Beatles in an exciting and diverse program of string music. A special guest vocal ensemble will be featured, and student conductor Jonathon Long will also conduct.
On Wednesday, February 20 in Bellarmine Chapel, the Men's and Women's Choruses, along with special guest the Northern Kentucky Children’s Ensemble, present a variety of music that celebrates February: Love songs and pop ballads for Valentines, Spirituals for Black History Month, and some wintery songs including Edward Elgar’s The Snow. All three choirs will join together to perform Rutter’s Look at the World and the well-known Canadian folksong Here’s to Song.
Finally, the Jazz Ensemble will conclude the Festival at Ryan's Pub in the Gallagher Student Center on Thursday, February 21. They will perform popular music from the '40s all the way to the '90s, ranging from jazz standards to rock tunes.
