"Make It Your Business" entrepreneurial competition for business students takes place today

Event is Ohio's only statewide entrepreneurship competition challenging teams of college students | October 23, 2008

Xavier University’s Williams College of Business is hosting Ohio’s only statewide college entrepreneurship conference and competition today, Thursday, Oct. 23, and Friday, Oct. 24, at the Cintas Center. Students attending the conference have the opportunity to invigorate their entrepreneurial spirit and learn from successful Ohio entrepreneurs.

“Make it Your Business” is co-sponsored by Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray and the Williams College of Business. The event is open to all Ohio undergraduate students.

The conference provides students with helpful services available to entrepreneurs in Ohio as well as information regarding financing and overcoming start-up challenges. Students can network with consultants and experts and connect with other student entrepreneurs.

In the first competition, students participate in a business exposition where they are required to create a display demonstrating their business idea and plan. Cash prizes for creativity and marketability are being awarded to the winners.

In the second competition, student teams compete with other school teams for customer satisfaction and profits in a fast-paced computer business simulation. Cash prizes and the right to be called the “Make it Your Business Entrepreneurs of the Year” are awarded to the winners.

“The competition will bring the brightest college entrepreneurs in the state to the best entrepreneurship school in the state,” said Alex Burkhart, a sophomore at Xavier who is participating in the program. “At the same time, everyone will be receiving the ultimate entrepreneurial X-experience.”
