Interfaith comedy show with three comedians takes place at Xavier on Thursday, March 12
Jewish, Christian and Muslim comics use comedy to address issues of interfaith dialogue
A Jewish comic born in Iran, an African-American Christian comic and a Muslim comic from Pakistan are performing together, using their talents to address dialogue between different faiths.
“3 Comics, 3 Faiths: An Interfaith Comedy Show” takes place at 8:30 p.m. at the Cintas Center on Thursday, March 12. The performance is free to Xavier faculty, students and staff with an All Card. For all others, a $5 donation is suggested.
During the show, each comedian is doing a separate standup routine. Though they know each other, this is the first time they have created a routine around the topic of “Interfaith Comedy as Interfaith Dialogue.” Earlier in the day, they are sitting on a panel to discuss humor during crises. The panel discussion takes place from 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. in Kelly Auditorium of the Alter Building.
Jordan Carlos is an American stand-up comedian with a recurring character on The Colbert Report and is a co-host on the Nickelodeon kids' show "Me TV." He is the trio’s Christian member.
Dan Ahdoot is a New York stand-up comedian. He was a contestant in NBC’s reality TV show Last Comic Standing and performed on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. An Iranian Jew, he grew up in Great Neck, New York.
Kumail Nangiani was born and spent 18 years of his life in Karachi, Pakistan, then moved to Iowa. His comedy covers a broad range of topics from giant squids to chocolate. Nangiani moved to Brooklyn in 2007. He is the Muslim member of the troupe.
Both the panel discussion and live performance are sponsored by Xavier’s Student Government Association, the Office of Interfaith Community Engagement, and the Brueggeman Center for Dialogue.
Those who want to attend may e-mail requests for tickets to email@example.com. Tickets will be held at “Will Call” at the Cintas Center ticket office. There is a limit of four tickets per person. Tickets are also available for purchase at the door the night of the show.
