| February 17, 2012

Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium Workshop will be held at Xavier University on Thursday, February 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 pm in the Banquet Room of the university’s Cintas Center. It is not open to the public, but the media is welcome to cover and interview leaders.

The SOC Consortium consists of more than 1,900 colleges and universities which have joined to help meet the postsecondary education needs of servicemembers. For more information on what Xavier University offers, please visit www.xavier.edu/veterans

After implementation of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, institutions have enrolled significantly more veteran students. A key goal of the workshop will be to discuss VA benefits under the bill and the campus implications of these educational benefits. The workshop will explore the challenges and opportunities of integrating military and veteran students into higher education and how best to support their transition. It will also highlight ways colleges can use SOC programs to recruit and retain students in a military market consisting of active-duty servicemembers, reserve component members, and veterans. Information about military tuition assistance policy and other educational initiatives provided for servicemembers and their families will be presented.
