H2N2 Influenza

Today's paper reports 10 more cases of variant H2N2 influenza in people who had contact with swine at the Butler county fair.

Important points:

- only affects individuals who had contact with infected pigs
- mild, self-limited, has not c

aused any hospitalizations or deaths
- not usually passed from person-to-person but small risk of transmission exists
- not the same as swine flu, or 2009 H1N1
- not a seasonal flu virus, not covered by flu vaccine
- cooked pork is still safe to eat
