GSC Renovations Website
11/12/10
We are excited to announce the GSC Renovations Website!
We are pleased to announce that starting Monday, November 22, 2010, the Gallagher Student Center will begin to undergo some exciting changes.
The GSC will be experiencing several years of renewal and replacement projects. The first phase of those projects will be starting just before the Thanksgiving break. This primary focus of this phase is the demolition and construction associated with the opening of the Hoff Academic Quad and the demolition of the Loyola, Dorothy Day and Publication Houses. Below are the highlights of the project:
- The International Student Services (GSC 230) suite will be combined with what used to be the Trio Student Support Services space (GSC 240) on the second floor. The new expanded space will be the Romero Center for International Education.
- The SGA suite will expand to include the space that was formerly the 24 Hour Computer Lab (GSC 220) and the space currently occupied by Project Search (GSC 250 and 251). The new expanded suite will provide additional work, storage and meeting space for student groups.
- Career Services (GSC 310) will relocate to the 5th Floor of the Conaton Learning Commons. The current space occupied by Career Services will be remodeled and will be the new home for the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice.
- The Office of Student Involvement (GSC 320) will move to the SGA suite on the 2nd Floor and the space they currently occupy will become a Commuter Lounge.
- The Center for Faith and Justice Annex (GSC 332) will be transformed into a new home for the Newswire.
- Project Search will move to the third floor to the space previously occupied by Campus Ministry (GSC 350).
- The Atrium will receive some work as well.
While it is easy to know the start date of these projects; Monday, November 22, it is more difficult to predict the exact end date of this work. I fully anticipate that it will continue in various stages for the next several months. During this time, I ask for your patience and understanding. There will be contractors working in the building. They will be frequently loading and unloading supplies. Also since the project involves both demolition and construction of new walls and ceilings, there will be a good deal of noise associated with all of the work that is taking place. Please know that while there will be some disruptions; we are doing everything we can to make sure that business continues as usual in the GSC.
Thanks,
The GSC Staff
