Cincinnati icon Carl Lindner, whose gifts to Xavier included a new physics building, is dead at age 92
Carl Lindner, a Cincinnati-based businessman and philanthropist whose first job was working for his father's dairy store in Norwood, Ohio, died on Monday, Oct. 17, at age 92. A story about his life ran in the Oct. 18 issue of The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Xavier awarded Lindner an honorary Doctor of Humanities in 1991, the same year the University dedicated the Carl Lindner Family Physics Building on the academic mall on campus. Also, Lindner contributed funds to make free art classes available to the community at the Flavor of Art Studio in the Evanston neighborhood adjacent to campus, which was started by the Evanston Community Council, the Cincinnati Police Department and Xavier.
