Best-selling author and peace education activist Greg Mortenson speaks at Xavier in September

Mortenson promotes peace education and literacy for girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan | August 6, 2010

Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace…One School At A Time, is coming to Xavier on Sept. 29. Mortenson, the co-founder and executive director of the nonprofit Central Asia Institute, promotes community-based education and literacy programs for girls in the remote mountain regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Since a 1993 climb on Pakistan’s K2 mountain, he has dedicated his life to this cause. He is the founder of Pennies For Peace, and his new book, Stones into Schools: Promoting Peace with Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan, is on The New York Times bestseller list.

Mortenson is speaking at Xavier’s Cintas Center at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29. There is no charge for the event, however tickets are required to attend. Tickets can be obtained at the Cintas Center Box Office from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., weekdays. Ticket information is also available online.
