Xavier University and the Department of Art are pleased to announce our sixth annual national all media juried exhibition Art at the X. The 2012 juror is Bill Seitz, Director, Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center, Covington, KY. 130 art entries were received from 46 artists located in 18 states and Canada. Mr. Seitz selected 35 pieces for exhibition. He shares his experience as follows:
“The entries for the Art at the X competition revealed a nice variety of styles and media. After multiple viewing, I was finally able to narrow the finalists into a cohesive show. I felt overall the artists were on a personal path and not trending towards any given contemporary art movement. There were narrative paintings, textiles that evoked mood by their use of color, fragmented collages of found objects and even primitive illustrations that spoke about everyday life. From tradition to contemporary, this range of art will be highlighted in this exhibition. I focused on quality and technique to guide me through the selection process, letting the artist dictate the visual communication.”
Please join us for the artists’ reception on Friday, August 24th, 6:00-8:00 p.m. The awards will be presented at 7:00 p.m. in the Gallery. Meet the artists and enjoy the art and refreshments. The exhibit runs through September 21.
