Xavier University and the Department of Art are pleased to present Blown by local artist Robert Mullenix.
Blown by Robert Mullenix is a series of mixed-media paintings created through the fusion of photo-montage and hand-painted imagery. The artist states “Attempting to reconcile American landscape tradition with contemporary digital media, I investigate the meaning of romantic landscape as modified by layers of technology. The photograph is the basis for these images; it reflects a conceptual, as well as a physical distance from the subject matter, as we tend to experience the outdoors vicariously through the filter of media. Derived from photographs of trees, found in publication, and digitally manipulated, I enlarge these images emphasizing the dot-matrix. The photographic image is repainted; my landscapes are constructed.”
Please join us for an artist reception on Wednesday, November 6, 4:00-6:30 p.m. The exhibit is on display in the Xavier University Art Gallery located in the A.B. Cohen Center through November 22.
