This event will be held on Veterans Day, TUESDAY 11 November 2008 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at The Armory on the campus of Xavier University at 3904 Winding Way in North Avondale.
Mattingly joined the Army in May 1998, after graduating from Xavier. He served in Bosnia in 2002, deployed to Iraq in late 2003 with the 4th Infantry, and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in September 2004. He died during combat in Mosul, Iraq, when gunfire hit his helicopter. The 30-year-old paratrooper had commanded Troop A of the 1st squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne. His family was told that he had saved the lives of several soldiers on the ground during the battle involving his helicopter.
