"Why did you choose to study music at Xavier?"
Elizabeth Brewer '06Elizabeth Brewer, Class of 2006
"I chose Xavier University's music program for its talented faculty, friendly atmosphere, and the challenging liberal arts education one is offered. Xavier University's music program also has many fabulous ways in which each student can get involved and apply what they learn in the classroom to everyday life. The music program at Xavier not only challenges each person to become a better musician and performer but also gives both confidence and reassurance that "Yes! You can do it!" This program is a family that strives for musical excellence and continually shares with others this universal language that we call music."
Katie Newman, Alumnae, Class of 2003
"Xavier University's music department has the unique distinction of being a faculty every bit as talented as that of a world-renowned music conservatory while also being every bit as caring and dedicated to its students as a small liberal arts college should be. As a student I had the opportunity to take advantage of a wide range of ensembles and performance opportunities-from classical recitals, opera workshop, and a small vocal chamber ensemble, to jazz ensembles, and a larger choral group. My four years at Xavier helped me to enhance my talent and musicianship and expose myself to new genres of music and new ways of thinking about music composition, performance, and the philosophies behind them. I was encouraged to study a diverse spread of music from Strayhorn to Villa Lobos to Puccini. If you are looking for a department in which you can flourish in small classes, one-on-one with talented and caring professors, make lasting friendships, and grow as a musician, all while enjoying the benefits of a liberal arts education-Xavier University's music department is the right fit for you!"
Amy Clark, Class of 2006
"Someone once asked me, "Why did I chose Xavier for music?" The answer to this was simple. Here at Xavier, I am treated by all my professors as an individual. All of my music professors are extremely knowledgeable in their field of expertise, and they explain all of their material clearly and concisely. I get individual attention in trouble spots, and each professor is willing to take time both in class and out of class to explain points that I might not understand. It's easy to make friends with those in my classes because everyone is so friendly, and always willing to help each other. The learning here is made fun and interesting, and since the professors make it so easy to talk to them one on one, I never feel intimidated. They are easy to learn from, and my lessons could not be any further from work than they are. I enjoy every minute I spend in and out of classes, and the more I learn, the more ready I feel for life outside of Xavier. I could not have asked for a better learning environment, better professors, or better friends than those I have found here at Xavier."Go to Top of the Page"
Justin Dudley, Graduate Student, M.E., 2004
"Xavier's music faculty are dedicated to their students and are able to give them plenty of individual attention. I have been able to work closely with faculty on scholarly musical projects, and have also been given generous performance opportunities with faculty members. At Xavier I have been encouraged to expand my musical taste, and have become familiar with a whole new world of music."
Grace Earley, Class of 2006
"I chose to be a part of the Xavier University's Music Department because I liked that the classes were taught by highly qualified faculty members and not teacher assistants. Also because the class sizes are small which allows for one-on-one instruction. One can also improve their musical abilities and performance skills through recitals and concerts. Xavier University is a liberal arts college that allows for the students to be educated through a diverse curriculum."
Dana Hunter, Class of 2007
"I chose Xavier University because of its diverse music programs and the musical opportunities and programs offered in Cincinnati."Go to Top of the Page
