Smooth Transitions Mentor Program
As a part of the Smooth Transitions Mentor Program (STMP), incoming first-year students of color (protégés) are paired with volunteer mentors. These mentors serve as role models, guidance counselors and more importantly, friends, to students who are still unfamiliar with campus life at Xavier.
STMP provides the needed socialization for students of color during their collegiate experience that helps to increase their retention rates. This program will empower students of color to be proactive members of the campus community. STMP is a developmental and transformational process that will not only provide self-development and cultural awareness, but will also foster a sense of belonging and raise consciousness.
- Increase the retention of students of color ensuring a higher number of students of color graduating from Xavier University.
- Make students of color aware of campus resources and services available at Xavier University.
- Encourage interaction between students of color and faculty/staff, as well as the campus community at large.
- Educate students on issues of diversity, multiculturalism, and social justice.
